What can't you celebrate work in films and songs?

Today was Monday, and you don't want to be reminded of it. You came to the office ahead of time, even ran past the usual thirty minutes. This was the first day of a working week, and you sensed that there were many tasks to be done. You were on warrior mode. When the clock would strike three in the afternoon, you still have energy. You were amazed, as you haven't felt this way since your first week in the office. And you were about to reach your first year (in the workplace). You were getting ready to leave the office a few hours later. Your mind wandered until something came up unexpectedly. It won't be a call from your parents, not even your friends inviting you to a Friday night drink. Culture was highly attuned to what was beautiful. It would inspire anyone. You couldn't say the same thing about work. You sighed, as it seemed like ages when you left the university.

You were eager to work, wanting to get busy most of the time. You recalled your colleague's expression when they saw your enthusiasm during your first week. Been there, done that. They didn't want to burst your bubble until you reached that certain stage. And you did. In your case, it took longer than theirs. It didn't depress you, but you wondered if there was a song that celebrated work. (Not "Manic Monday".) It might have been a different case with cinema. (Your tutor thought highly of "Working Girl", which was a fairy-tale depiction of Wall Street. Anyone who haven't worked in New York wouldn't guess the brutal environment, but it was nice to see a woman to make it to the top. A good woman, she pointed out. But you reminded her of Oliver Stone.) If there was a poem about paying bills, then you might not be stressed out about waking up early in the morning and commuting to the workplace.

You tried to figure out the reasons. You came up with the following:

Why must you act professional? You were expect to act calm, stoic, and reserved upon entering the office premises. And you would remain that way. It put you in a nostalgic mood, reminding your moments with your housemates. And you almost chuckled when you recalled the first time you passed out. It made you nervous, as you kept on reminding yourself to mind your manners in front of your colleagues. You also don't show a sign of emotion to your boss unless you would be commended for a job well done. You would do it five days a week, four weeks a month, twelve months a year. You haven't thought about resigning from your job.

Why must there be feedback? You wished that your boss was like your tutor, who would give you encouraging words. Someone who would keep on inspiring you, not to mention the connection between teacher and student. You haven't heard any constructive criticism from your superior, and you don't want that day to happen. However, this scenario crossed your mind a few times. And it made you anxious. This won't be a competition, but you don't want to be called incompetent. You would wish for good feedback. Always.

Why work couldn't be easier? You asked the same question a few years ago. You were a first-year student in the university. You were procrastinating on an assignment.

It was time to go home. Tomorrow would be another day.
